KDP Select

I'm sure like millions of people around the world, I woke up to an email from KDP telling me about this new lending programme they've started. I must admit I was intrigued. I must have read it about four times and went over the terms and conditions even more times. I did a search and read the Smashwords blog on the subject, I visited kindleboards to read what other people thought about it and went back to KDP to make sure I understood it correctly.

The programme is this. You can choose to enrol a tittle onto KDP select and for 90days and you give Amazon exclusivity to publish your work. How I understand this and how it reads on the terms and conditions is that during the 90 days you can't sell your work anywhere, that includes your own personal website. It has to be exclusive to amazon (Ebooks only). With this you can also choose to go free for five days during this 90 day period. When the 90 day period is up, it will automatically renew unless of course you opt out.

This has been an interesting debate. There are many who are up for it and many who feel that it's a bad deal and it's almost like being roped into a traditional publishing deal, something indies want to be free from. Which I get and completely understand. But at the end of it all  and reading everyone else's opinion on the matter, it really boils down to what I think would benefit me. What do I want if anything to be apart of this?

Well, I've thought long and hard and I've decided I would try one of my books in this programme to see how it goes. Test the waters, so to say. It's not so much the lending that's got my attention, it's the going free on Amazon that I'm interested in. Yes, yes so many titles will go free, SO WHAT! So what if a million titles go free?  I'm a strong believer that there is enough for all. Lets face it not everyone is going to be a writer are they? It would be totally amazing if 7 billion people on this planet sat down and wrote a book. If this happened, wow! Is all I can say.

So let's say a million titles go free in one month on Amazon. Baring in mind that the world is so diverse and also baring in mind that it is reported that 83 million people world wide visit Amazon a month. Not everyone is going to like erotica are they? Diversity lol! At the end of the day we all have a choice to make that will be good for them. So here's to KDP Select. I wonder what the future holds!

Good luck to all whatever road you choose ;-)
